IPL
WHAT IS IPL?
If you struggle with sun damage or dark spots, Body Up Medical Spa can provide a skin analysis to determine if you could benefit from intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. IPL is a rejuvenating skin treatment that addresses hyperpigmentation on the face and neck. Even though a photofacial is a noninvasive procedure, it still provides excellent results. At Body Up Medical Spa we uses intense wavelengths of light that warm the skin, which encourages collagen production. As the collagen starts to increase, you should see a healthier layer of skin with reduced hyperpigmentation.
IS AN IPL FOR YOU?
A photofacial targets the deeper layers of your skin and treats specific problems, such as sun damage, rosacea, brown spots, rough texture, large pores, redness, freckles, melasma, age spots, or broken capillaries. As a nonsurgical procedure, this option works well for patients who do not want a long recovery period or the expense of surgery. During your consultation, we will assess your skin, listen to your goals, determine if a photofacial is right for you, and create a detailed treatment plan.
HOW DOES IPL WORK?
Lasting about 20 – 30 minutes, we perform IPL photofacials in one of our private, state-of-the-art treatment rooms. At the beginning of your treatment, the technician will clean and dry your skin before covering your eyes with goggles. The IPL photofacial is administered using a handheld wand that passes over the skin and emits pulses of light energy. While many patients experience some discomfort during an IPL photofacial, the treatment is generally tolerable because it doesn't take that long.
WHAT TO EXPECT
After your IPL, you can resume your daily activities. At first, your complexion will look a little red and inflamed. Your symptoms will subside in about a day, and if preferred, you can conceal them with makeup. To minimize any irritation and encourage healing, we recommend that you keep an ointment on the skin. Additionally, it helps to use an anti-inflammatory medication for swelling. After 2 – 5 days, the blemishes that rested under the skin will come to the surface and start to flake off. We highly recommend wearing sunscreen to avoid sun damage and to avoid picking at your skin. You will see improvement at first, but for optimal results, we recommend multiple sessions. Usually, at Body Up Medical Spa we recommends 3 – 6 treatments each month.
